Our Child Abuse Pediatrician/Supervisor oversees a team of Medical Providers in addition to providing medical evaluations of children suspected to be victims of abuse or neglect. Child Abuse Medical Providers also provide education to the community regarding child maltreatment and child well-being. This position utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the evaluation of suspected child abuse, working in partnership with forensic interviewers, family support specialists, and community partners such as law enforcement and child protective services. 

Reports To:  Medical Clinic Director            

Classification: Salaried Exempt .8 FTE (exact schedule negotiable); full benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Supervisor, you will:

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and annual evaluations of medical providers.
  • Provide input regarding medical provider budget, staffing, salaries, and duties.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of providers.
  • Coordinate initial and ongoing clinical training for providers.
  • Participate in team meetings, quality assurance reviews, peer reviews, and case consultations.
  • Participate in leadership meetings at the Center.
  • Promote professional development of medical providers via ongoing learning, quality assurance, peer review, and educational activities/opportunities.
  • Provide coverage for the Medical Clinic Director, when needed.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community partners and team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Be available for support and problem solving in evaluation process.
  • Work with Child Interviewer Supervisor and Family Support Supervisor to manage overall clinic schedule.
  • Assist the Medical Clinic Director in developing protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain expertise in child abuse issues, general pediatric issues, and medical evaluation standards through related continuing education and staying abreast of current research. 
  • Provide education to the community regarding child maltreatment and well-being.
  • Perform sensitive and thorough medical examinations of children for whom there are concerns of child abuse and/or neglect, including colposcopy and team participation during child interviews.
  • Gather comprehensive social and medical history from parent and/or patients and review other relevant case information.
  • Assess general pediatric problems, physical findings, and development; coordinate medical follow-up.
  • Provide periodic after-hours on-call phone consultation on a rotating schedule.
  • Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely manner, ensuring the product is well-organized and professionally written.
  • Review medical records and/or provide medical consultation as requested by community partners.
  • Testify in court, as necessary.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional degree (MD or DO).
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics.
  • Knowledge of child abuse dynamics.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to relate well to children and adults in crisis.

A criminal background check, sex offender registry check, and DHS child welfare registry check are required for employment at Children’s Center and will be completed for all finalists.
